The cyclical effects of poverty and AIDS in Zimbabwe have an immeasurable impact on the well being of children. Although affected children are resilient, the lack of economic security, inadequate education, and the burden of household responsibilities, has left them vulnerable to sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Those orphaned by AIDS usually stay with their grandparents or extended families members who are already strained by poverty and are incapable of sending them to school. Resources from well-intentioned large organizations do not usually reach out to small communities and households in places like Chitungwiza. Without outside support, underprivileged children have little chance of leading successful lives and hence reinforce the poverty cycle in their communities.
